Somebody is kidnapping children. They've been doing it for years and nobody saw the pattern...
Until one day, by chance, ex-Homicide Detective Frank Langer stumbles on the monstrous conspiracy.
Since a mental breakdown put him on medical leave from the squad he was once hand-picked to lead, Frank spends his days drinking and chain-smoking, and his nights waking up screaming from a horrific recurring nightmare.
So when he shows up at the squad with his wild story, the guys pat him on the back and tell him to go home. But after the mother of one of the missing children commits suicide, Frank stamps down his demons, and together with the dead woman's sister Rebecca, plunges into the case.
The clues lead to a shadowy cabal lurking behind one of the richest and most powerful Pharma corporations on the planet. When Frank finally unravels the mystery, the answer is more deadly than he ever imagined, and telling Rebecca would put her life in danger. Soon even she comes to question his sanity.
Frank has to warn the world of the treacherous plot. But can he stay alive long enough to find someone to buy his story?

I received a free copy of this book through a book bundle giveaway. I voluntarily decided to review. This is my honest review. This is the first book I have read from this author. He did a great job portraying PTSD and educating the reader about this disorder. In fact, he has a strong writing style that is full of good descriptions, believable conversations, strong characterizations, and good sentence structure. The book read smoothly and I didn't have any trouble when past events were inserted into the present.
The only thing I didn't like was the science fiction part. It was creepy to me. Really creepy. Without giving spoilers, which I detest, I can't say much more about that aspect. It ruined the enjoyment I had up to that point, but I finished the book in order to have the full picture of the book before reviewing. This is a totally personal viewpoint. This creep factor for me would, probably, make most readers laugh and wonder what is wrong with her?! That's fine by me. We all have different comfort levels regarding a variety of things.
If you don't have a problem with science fiction, I highly recommend this book. If you have a low creep factor like me, then you can take a chance or not. Jay Allan Storey can write! That stands out for me enough to say it again. The writing was excellent. I don't regret reading The Arx. It was worth it to read a well constructed story.

The Arx edition by Jay Allan y Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Excellent story with a well written protagonist. The author's portrayal of a mind in turmoil was deeply disturbing but felt all too real. And the action! Superbly done. The premise too is unusual and a path few if any have followed successfully. I'll be looking for more from this author.
Well, this was just a very, very good story. Even though the main character had some really cringe-worthy habits, i ended up liking him and rooting for him. It has a great plot idea which left me a little creeped out. I felt like the story moved along well, and the mystery and suspense kept me reading late into the night.
So good I'm already reading another one of his books. He's excellent at putting the story in your head. I can see the characters come to life and envision what I'm reading with ease.
There is a twist that comes later in the book that will simply blow your mind. Never in a million years would I have thought this idea up but Mr. y did and I'm so glad he did cause even if it never happens the idea that it COULD blows me away.
Can't wait to finish reading this other book of his and all of his others. This is one to keep up with. He's gonna be one of the new power writers out there and I hope continues to produce more stories in the coming years.
This is the second novel by JAS that I have read and both were very good and well written books. The ARX is an exciting read that will have you turning pages well after you are supposed to be in the bed. One thing I like about Jay's writing is that you really get to know the characters in his books. I enjoyed this book more than any I've read in quite a while.
I enjoy mysteries , who-done-its and most police procedurals. This story confused me when it became a science fiction story halfway through. I also didn't like not know what caused the main character's periods of acute stress reactions. That ploy was almost a tease.
Initially, I was hesitant to press on as the theme seemed to be a familiar one with a burnt out drunken cop, but I was very pleased that I continued through the twisting and suspenseful story that followed. This book is well written and as an author myself, appreciated the detail and scene development by Jay Allan y.
I thought this book had an interesting story line but it could use a little more editing. There was a newspaper article that stated a man killed in a car accident a month ago had now been identified but when Frank interviewed the man's on-again, off-again girlfriend she told him she last heard from her boyfriend a week ago. She also said she last saw him 2 or 3 weeks ago. So obviously he didn't die in a car accident a month ago. I also thought it was confusing how a new paragraph would start and it would be a new day, new setting, etc. from the one before. It was just very abrupt at times. I do think the author has talent though and his story was unique and interesting. I also liked that it was a nice quick read. It was over 400 pages but it went really fast. I would consider reading another book by him in the future.
